Looking for somewhere unusual to stay in Mossel Bay, South Africa? Book a bed at Santos Express, a converted train on the beach.
Seats have been removed to make way for 16-bed dorms, private rooms and small social areas that overlook the sea. Showers and bathrooms are nice and clean – and there’s even hot water.
Where to surf
You won’t find any waves here so you’ll need to walk towards ‘the pool’ (take the steps up to the main road and turn left) which takes around 30 minutes.
Here you’ll find a small, rocky cove that is popular with body borders and surfers. Look out for seals and remember this bay is home to great white sharks!
Prices: Dorms on Santos Express cost from 100ZAR and privates from 130ZAR, including continental breakfast in the ajoining restaurant.
See video of a Great White shark jumping out of the water and don’t forget to check out the beautiful Table Mountain in Cape Town.
