Croc-spotting on the Mekong Delta in Vietnam is a truly unique experience – but, sadly, one that doesn’t last long enough!
We organised a 2-day Mekong Delta tour from Ho Chi Minh city that included various activities, a homestay on the river and a floating market.
Overall it was an enjoyable experience but it certainly had its highs and lows! Read our review of the 2-day Mekong Delta trip.
- Drifting down the Mekong Delta in the local rowing boats.
- Feeding the crocodiles chunks of meat and waiting for one of them to snap (10,000 Vietnamese Dong).
- The homestay with a local family
We were hoping for more time in the rowing boats. We wanted to drift along taking in the smells, sounds and sights of this beautiful part of the world.
Unfortunately it was more of a tourist trap and this beautiful stretch of the Mekong was crammed with boats taking foreigners downstream. And it only lasted a mere 10 minutes!
We spent most of the trip on a motorised boat, stopping at various points to see how locals lived – but it wasn’t authentic. It didn’t seem real. Just a show for all the tourists.
The floating market was also a disappointment. We were expecting boats of colourful fruit, smiling locals and a bustling atmosphere. Instead, it seemed strangely quiet. Maybe we just had a bad day.
If you’re looking for a truly AMAZING riverside experience, then the Amazon in South America is unbeatable!
