If you’re looking for a rainforest retreat in Borneo – and quite possibly the best balcony in the world – then visit Paganakan Dii in Sepilok.
Set on a narrow ridge overlooking the rainforest, this resort has something for everyone: spacious dorms, deluxe chalets and even accommodation for volunteers of the Sun Bear Conservation Centre.
We stayed in one of the Duplex Ridge huts (180 ringgit per night), and we almost didn’t leave! There’s an open-air shower, luxurious bedding and doors that slide back to reveal breathtaking views.
The balcony is quite possibly the best in the world, particularly if you’ve come to Borneo to appreciate nature at its finest.
If you do drag yourself away from the room (it takes some effort), you can enjoy a complementary shuttle bus to the nearby Orang-utan Rehabilitation Sanctuary and Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sepilok.
The minibus leaves daily at 9am, 2pm and 4pm, which is perfect timing for the orang-utan feeding times at 10am and 3pm.
There’s also a pavilion-cum-restaurant and dewan multi-purpose hall (pictured above), both built on the hill slopes and offering stunning views of the rainforest.
