A Spanish woman and her boyfriend were attacked in the Indian town of Pushkar on 5 April.

According to local reports, the couple were walking to a temple in a rural area when 5 Indian men approached, struck the man over the head with a rock and attempted to rape his partner.

The woman said her clothes were torn off and her male companion beaten up. Locals say her cries for help alerted a passerby who came to the rescue.

It’s thought the attackers – who now been charged – are from nearby Ajmer and not from Pushkar itself. According to locals there is a ongoing tensions between the two towns.
