Looking for Melbourne’s best bars? Don’t leave town without doing this tried-and-tested bar crawl. This partiular tour takes in Melbourne’s unique laneway scene. Not to be missed.
4pm Ponyfish Island
Quench your thirst with a cold beer at Ponyfish Island, a cool little bar in the middle of the River Yarra (pictured above). Come rain or shine, this little gem offers fantastic views of Melbourne’s skyline.
5pm Degraves St.
Walk over the bridge towards the city and head towards Degraves Street, a bustling little alleyway that’s packed full of cafes, freshly-brewed coffee.
From here, you’ll start the classic laneway bar crawl, stopping to take in graffiti as you wind through the narrow allegways.
5.30pm Rooftop Bar
Continue down the backstreets (strategically chosen to wow your friends), through China Town, until you reach Rooftop Bar on Swanston Street – an open air bar with deckchairs, yummy cocktails and aerial views of the city. In summer they have Rooftop Cinema (pictured).
6.30pm Section 8
As the evening draws in, head to Section 8, an outdoor container bar with DJs spinning tunes from early afternoon. This place gets packed, so get there early and have one for the road.
Next door to Section 8 is FerdyDurke, another great Melbourne bar. Be sure to sit outside on the fire escape to get the best views of Section 8 and see the art projection on the wall opposite.
FOOD STOP: Hungry? China Town is nearby, so stop off for some well-deserved food on Little Bourke Street.
11pm Goldilocks Roodtop
Finish off the night with a nightcap at Goldilocks Rooftop, another bar with amazing views of the city.
