Looking for unusual things to do in Hamburg, Germany? Take a tour of U-434, a Russian submarine docked at the harbour.
Located near the St Pauli Fischmarkt, this 90m-long submarine, now a museum exhibit, looms large and ominous out of the water.
It was built in 1975 and remained in active service until 2001.Now visitors can explore the vessel by descending down a narrow, creaking metal staircase into the torpedo loading hatches, complete with eerie-looking mannequins.
Peer into tiny bedrooms, check out the captain’s cabin and experience the cramped living quarters and claustrophobic corridors.
This is a truly unique experience and one not to be missed if you’re visiting Hamburg!
Tickets cost €9 per person and can be booked at the ticket office in front of the submarine.
